Paddle through Prospect Park’s fall color on a free ranger-led canoe trip Oct. 25
NYC Parks rangers will take paddlers out for 90 minutes on the park's waterways this Sunday. Anyone 8 or older can join for free, with no sign-up, and seats go to whoever arrives first.
Urban Park Rangers will lead a free canoe trip on Prospect Park’s waterways this Sunday, Oct. 25, so New Yorkers can take in the fall foliage from the water. NYC Parks is hosting the outing. It starts at 11 a.m. and wraps up at 12:30 p.m.
Prospect Park canoe trip: time, place and who can join
Paddlers meet at Prospect Park’s Audubon Center at the Boathouse in Brooklyn. For about 90 minutes, the rangers will guide the group across the water and past wooded stretches of the park, where the leaves are turning red, orange and gold this time of year. NYC Parks says the Oct. 25 canoe outing paddles on Prospect Park Lake. NYC Parks Seeing that color from a canoe gives you a different view of the park than you get from its paths.
Anyone 8 or older can take part, which makes it a good fit for families with older kids or a group of friends looking for a different weekend plan. There is no charge.
No registration, so get there early
There is no sign-up. Canoe seats go to whoever arrives first, and space may be limited, so turning up does not guarantee you a place. Check-in happens at the Boathouse, and the canoes head out at 11 a.m. sharp, so give yourself a comfortable cushion of time.
You will spend the whole trip outside on the water, so dress for the weather in clothes that are comfortable on a fall morning. Before you head out, check the NYC Parks website in case there are last-minute changes.
