Refuge NYC turns 1 with a 72-hour dance marathon on Ten Eyck Street
The Brooklyn club with no VIP section marks its first year with three straight days of DJs, from Deep Dish to Brothers Macklovitch.
Refuge NYC, the Brooklyn dance club at 366 Ten Eyck Street, is celebrating its first year with a party that runs nonstop for 72 hours, from Friday, Sept. 25, through Sunday, Sept. 27.
Refuge NYC anniversary lineup
Deep Dish starts the weekend on Friday with a set that lasts 12 hours. Saturday belongs to the club’s cofounders, John DiMatteo and Craig “Shorty” Bernabeu, who play alongside Ragie Ban and guests who have not been named yet. On Sunday, Victor Calderone takes the sunrise slot, and Brothers Macklovitch, the sibling pair of A-Trak and Chromeo’s Dave 1, close the party that night.
Set times, tickets and entry details are on the club’s website.
A Brooklyn club with no VIP tables
Refuge opened last year without a VIP area or bottle service. The 500-person room was the work of DiMatteo, a veteran promoter, and Bernabeu, a sound engineer. They built it for long DJ sessions, so performers have time to develop a set, and fitted it with a custom-made analogue sound setup that sends audio from four points, so everyone on the floor hears the music the same way.
The venue says people from 73 countries and more than 1,300 cities came through in its first year.
Refuge has also started a SoundCloud channel of live recordings. Seth Troxler and Calderone trading tracks for seven hours straight is the channel’s debut, captured at an after-hours session that was never announced.
