PopUp Bagels opens in Times Square Oct. 16 with a Katz’s pastrami butter
The bagel brand that sells only by the bag opens its permanent shop at 1501 Broadway at 7 a.m. Oct. 16. Opening day brings a DJ, free drinks and two New York flavors.
New Yorkers guard their bagels closely, but a brand from Connecticut has won many of them over. It is now putting down roots in Times Square. PopUp Bagels opens its permanent location at 1501 Broadway on Friday, Oct. 16, and the doors open at 7 a.m.
Adam Goldberg started the brand in his Westport backyard as a pandemic side project. Its first New York City storefront landed in Greenwich Village, and devoted regulars showed up fast.
What’s on the menu at PopUp Bagels Times Square
Don’t expect sandwiches. The bagels are served whole and hot and sold only by the bag. You tear off a piece and dunk it into one of the rotating spreads, a routine the brand calls Grip, Rip and Dip.
For the Times Square debut, two New York flavors join the menu: a New York Cheesecake Strawberry Schmear and an Everything but the Pastrami Butter developed with Katz’s Delicatessen. The standard bagels are here too, in Plain, Everything, Poppy, Salt and Sesame. On the spread side there is cream cheese, plain or scallion, along with two butters, one salted and one flavored with brown sugar and cinnamon.
Opening day perks and hours
The grand opening is built to reward people who come early. A live DJ will play, the first people in line get NYC-themed merchandise, and Natalie’s, La Colombe and Saint James are handing out free drinks.
After opening day, the shop serves every day from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. No other PopUp shop in the city stays open that late.
