Getting to MetLife Stadium by NJ Transit train
MetLife Stadium strongly encourages ticket holders to take mass transit to NFL games. According to the stadium, NJ Transit runs the Meadowlands Rail Service for events with anticipated attendance above 50,000, and that service stops at the front door of the stadium.
Trains run from Secaucus Junction, where most of NJ Transit’s rail system connects. The stadium says service starts a few hours before kickoff and keeps running for a couple of hours after the game ends. The ride from Secaucus Junction to the Sports Complex station takes about 10 minutes.
Exact train times and fares for Oct. 25 are not listed on the stadium’s pages. Check with NJ Transit closer to game day. To reach the train after the game, leave through the MetLife or Verizon gates. On select occasions NJ Transit may also run buses between Secaucus Junction and the stadium, with staff on hand to direct riders to the bus boarding areas. The stadium’s public transportation page has a downloadable transit map.
Coach USA 351 bus from Port Authority
Coach USA runs the 351 Meadowlands Express from the Port Authority to the MetLife Sports Complex for NFL games. Service starts two and a half hours before the start of the game and runs until half an hour after the start. After the game, the 351 runs for about an hour.
The bus drops off and picks up in Lot K, near the Quest Diagnostics Performance Center. To reach it, leave through the MetLife Gate. For schedules and other details, visit 351express.com or call (800) 877-1888, Ext. 3. Before heading to Port Authority, check live subway status.
Driving and parking at MetLife Stadium
Lots usually open five hours before an event and close two hours after it ends. For this game, the event page puts the lot opening at 8 a.m. The event page has a Buy Parking link.
- Fans with general seating are sent to the lots closest to where they enter the Sports Complex, and driving between lots is not allowed.
- NJ State Police may search vehicles, sometimes with a canine unit. Drivers who refuse a search will not be let into the Sports Complex.
- Parking on nearby roads, medians, grass and breakdown lanes is prohibited. Violators can be ticketed or towed at the owner’s expense.
- Overnight parking is not allowed on the Sports Complex.
- Charter buses park in Lot L.
Full lot details are on the stadium’s general event parking page.
Park and ride from Secaucus Junction
To avoid the traffic right around the stadium, you can park at the Laz at Edison Park Fast lot at the Frank R. Lautenberg Station at Secaucus Junction and take the train. The lot is at 675 New Country Road in Secaucus, off Exit 15X on the eastern extension of the NJ Turnpike. It has 1,100 spaces and is open 24 hours a day, and reservations are recommended. The stadium asks ticket holders to confirm that rail service is running for the event before choosing this option.
Rideshare and taxi drop-off
Taxis, limousines and rideshare cars drop off on the roadway between Lots D and E. Using that drop-off area is free. Rideshare pickup is in Lot E.
The stadium warns that surge pricing is often in effect after events and that waits can run longer than two hours when crowds are large. It suggests public transportation instead to avoid those delays.
MetLife Stadium bag policy and entry
MetLife Stadium follows the NFL clear bag policy. These bags are allowed:
- One clear bag per person, no larger than 12 by 6 by 12 inches
- One small clutch-type purse or handbag per person, no larger than 4.5 by 6.5 inches
- A one-gallon clear plastic freezer bag
Non-clear bags larger than 4.5 by 6.5 inches are not allowed. That includes backpacks, fanny packs, diaper bags, camera or binocular cases and briefcases. Seat cushions are also banned unless needed for medical reasons. Medically necessary items are allowed after inspection at a designated gate.
Everyone is searched before entering, and staff may ask you to open your bag and take items out. If your bag is too large, take it back to your car or use the Bag Check Facility outside each open gate, which is free for NFL events. The full rules are on the stadium’s bag policy page.
What to know before you go
Plan around three times: lots at 8 a.m., doors at 11 a.m. and the start at 1 p.m. If you take the 351 bus, it runs from two and a half hours before the start until half an hour after it. Mass transit avoids the post-game traffic and rideshare waits the stadium warns about. Check the NYC weather forecast before you leave, and read the Know Before You Go document on the event page for any late changes.
