Police are investigating a Saturday night assault in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn, in which two men, both 36, were hit on the head with a hammer outside a Burger King, police said.
Investigators said the attack took place shortly after 9 p.m. close to where 14th Avenue meets 65th Street.
Dyker Heights hammer attack victims treated at Lutheran
Neither man arrived by ambulance. Both got to Lutheran Medical Center in a private vehicle, and as of Sunday night they remained in the hospital recovering. The extent of their injuries was not clear.
Two men took off on foot after the assault, and police are now searching for that pair, according to people familiar with the case. Nobody is in custody so far. It was also not yet clear whether the victims were targeted at random.
That question worried some neighbors, who said the attack would be more troubling if it proves to have been random. A resident who gave the name Eugene said that having a family made the attack a reason to think about protection. Still, the resident said, “I suppose it was only one time and nothing else.”
