Pick a free plush flower at Rockefeller Center through Sunday

Thousands of plush flowers have taken over Center Plaza at Rockefeller Center, where New York artist Cj Hendry has returned her Flower Market to Midtown for four days, ending Sunday, Sept. 27. Getting in costs nothing, and each visitor picks one flower to keep.

Doors open at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 24, and close at 8 p.m. From Friday through Sunday, the market runs daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Each soft bloom is a version of a flower native to New York, and the plaza has been turned into a burst of color that mixes art, flowers and city energy.

Admission is free, and so is the first flower. Anyone building a larger bouquet pays $5 per additional stem.

For shorter waits, the Flower Market Express Ticket adds a faster entry line and a visit to the observation deck at Top of the Rock. Adults pay from $61, seniors from $59 and kids from $55. Reservations are available on Rockefeller Center’s website.

A meal can earn you a bloom, too. Through the weekend, NARO, Le Rock, Jupiter and 5 Acres are handing a free flower to diners along with the bill.

Why the Rockefeller Center flower market is back

Last year’s market pulled in huge crowds, and Rockefeller Center invited Hendry back. EB Kelly, who heads Rockefeller Center as a senior managing director at Tishman Speyer, said the event “captures the energy, creativity, and spontaneity of the city.” Kelly added that the market gathers thousands of people in a way that feels unique to New York, and that the center was thrilled to host Hendry again.
