Brooklyn Halloween for kids: Ascarium, Luna Park and a spooky zoo trail

Three Brooklyn attractions are running Halloween events for families through the end of October: Ascarium at the New York Aquarium, a fall makeover at Luna Park and weekend Halloween activities at the Prospect Park Zoo.

Ascarium at the New York Aquarium

Ascarium is back at the aquarium, 602 Surf Ave., on Saturdays and Sundays from Oct. 10 to Oct. 31, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is also open on Monday, Oct. 12, with the same hours. This year adds two new features, the Sea of Illusions and Bubble Play. Kids can still get their faces painted, play games and catch magic acts with an ocean theme, and the Wildlife Theater is putting on shows again. The aquarium’s animals are on view as well.

At 1000 Surf Ave., Luna Park has fall decorations and pumpkin displays through Nov. 1. Visitors will also find spooky attractions, live entertainment, harvest treats and autumn activities for all ages. Times vary.

Prospect Park Zoo Halloween weekends

The Prospect Park Zoo, 450 Flatbush Ave., has Halloween activities every Saturday and Sunday through Oct. 31, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. In Sea Lion Court, families can visit tombstones for extinct animals and learn how they can help keep extinction from happening. There is also a Spooky Trail, a look at some of the park’s nighttime animals, Spooky Science and live shows. Kids can come in costume, and the harvest displays make good photo spots.

Other ideas for Brooklyn families include canoeing on the Gowanus Canal, exploring Brooklyn Bridge Park, free skating days at Pier 2 and the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music grand opening parade.
