Boqueria turns 20 with $5 pan con tomate and $7 sangría for a week
From Sept. 21 to 27, every Boqueria in NYC brings back its original 2006 prices on some dishes and drinks, followed by free Dominique Ansel pastries in SoHo.
Boqueria, the Spanish tapas restaurant that opened in Flatiron in 2006, is marking its 20th anniversary by bringing back its original prices on some dishes and drinks at every New York City location from Sept. 21 through Sept. 27.
Boqueria 2006 prices: what $5 to $7 buys
During the anniversary week, pan con tomate is $5, tortilla española and patatas bravas are $6 each, and a glass of sangría is $7. Along with those discounted dishes, the restaurants will serve other throwback plates inspired by Boqueria’s first menus.
The first Boqueria opened in summer 2006 at 53 W. 19th St. It took its name and inspiration from Barcelona’s Mercat de la Boqueria. With communal tables and a busy bar, the narrow Flatiron restaurant helped make casual, market-style Spanish food familiar to New Yorkers.
In the two decades since, the brand has grown well past Flatiron. Its other city restaurants are in SoHo, the Times Square area and the Upper East Side, and it also operates in several other U.S. cities.
Free Dominique Ansel pastries on Spring Street
The anniversary ends with a giveaway. On Saturday, Sept. 26, and Sunday, Sept. 27, Boqueria and Dominique Ansel Bakery will park a vintage Citroën food truck on Spring Street in SoHo and give away 100 free pastries each day. Pastries go first come, first served, so getting there early helps.
The pairing is a local one: the pastry shop and Boqueria’s SoHo location sit on the same block.
