Belmont Park opening day schedule
Gates open at 11 a.m. on Friday, and the first race starts at 1:30 p.m. Eight more races follow during the afternoon, and the last one is set for 6:24 p.m. The biggest race of the day is the Jockey Gold Cup at 4:14 p.m. Its winner earns an automatic spot in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.

What’s new at the rebuilt track
The old grandstand is gone. It opened in 1905 and held as many as 100,000 people. Its replacement is much smaller and built like a modern stadium, with 31 suites, a sports bar and a huge video screen facing the infield.
The track closed for construction in 2023. While it was shut, the Belmont Stakes ran at Saratoga Race Course, and Aqueduct added extra racing in the spring and fall.
