Fall in New York is at its peak, and one of the city’s best-loved traditions is coming back. The Rink at Rockefeller Center opens its 90th season on Saturday, Oct. 10, and the first skaters can step onto the ice at 9 a.m. The rink sits at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, between 49th and 50th streets in Midtown.

General admission starts at $22 a person, and the rink will operate every day of the season. First set up in 1936 as a temporary attraction, it now welcomes more than 250,000 skaters each year.

Skaters arriving on opening weekend will also find a new public artwork on Center Plaza. Artist Kenny Scharf is unveiling “Scary and the Dancers!”, a colorful, cartoon-inspired piece anchored by an inflatable sculpture that stands 34 feet tall. It brings a burst of bold color to the middle of Midtown and stays on view through Nov. 1.

For families, Art Sundae offers a free art workshop for children every Saturday through October.

Several new and returning seasonal features roll out over the coming weeks:

  • Nov. 14: an all-new Skate House and VIP Experience, built for skaters who want a more elevated day at the rink, with better facilities and added perks.
  • Nov. 20: 90th Anniversary Lodges, new seasonal lounges that celebrate nine decades of skating history at the plaza.

The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree is scheduled to arrive Nov. 7, less than a week after the Scharf installation comes down.
