About How2NewYork
How2NewYork is an independent, English-language guide to New York City. We cover the local news that changes your week, the events worth leaving the apartment for, and the practical know-how of living in and visiting the city: transit, weather, housing, food and neighborhoods across all five boroughs.
What we publish
- NYC News: short, clear explainers on city decisions, transit changes, housing, safety and the stories New Yorkers talk about.
- Events and NYC Nights: festivals, free events, openings and things to do, with dates, times and prices up front.
- How-To NYC: practical guides that answer the questions people actually search for.
- Live city tools: subway service status and transit links and the NYC weather forecast from the National Weather Service.
How we work
Our stories are built from public information: announcements from city and state agencies, public records, court filings and reporting published by other New York news organizations. We rewrite, condense and explain that information in our own words, and add the context readers need. We do not claim original on-the-ground reporting unless a story says so. Who runs How2NewYork
How2NewYork is an independent publication run by a private individual and is part of the How2 family of city guides, alongside How2London and How2Sofia. The How2 guides are edited mainly from Sofia, Bulgaria, with team members in Berlin, Germany; Oxford, England; and New Jersey. We are not affiliated with any government agency, political campaign or the organizations we write about.
