What happens inside the Minecraft Experience at American Dream
Instead of playing on a screen, visitors walk through eight rooms filled with interactive sets and moving projections. The route goes through a forest, a village, several biomes and a mineshaft with a battle scene. Players practice in the forest, get their quest and then collect materials to rescue villagers from a zombie attack. Spiders, skeletons and creepers show up along the way. Near the end, players craft a potion to save the villagers and build a portal to escape.
Each guest gets a handheld Orb of Interaction that lights up, vibrates and changes color. It is used to break blocks, collect resources and hit hostile mobs in each room. The whole quest takes about an hour.
Some parts involve reaching, jumping and throwing, but guests can take part as much or as little as they want. Players and non-players are both welcome, and no Minecraft knowledge is needed.
Ages, sensory notes and adult nights
All ages are welcome, but the activities are designed for children 7 and older to take full part. Anyone younger than 16 needs an adult along, and kids 2 or younger can enter without a ticket. Parts of the walk-through go dark, get noisy or fill with projected images in motion. Nothing is built to make guests jump, and nothing is gory, though people with sensory sensitivities might pack earplugs or sunglasses. An 18+ Adult Night is also listed.
